Ophelia Kadie Bahn was born to native parents in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, on November 21, 1985. Her life has been defined by fortitude, compassion, and a deep desire to serve others. From an early age, she nurtured a powerful dream—one which she shared with her father—to dedicate her life to helping those in need.
Raised primarily by her grandparents, Moses Dickerner Barlea and Mary T. Barlea, Ophelia learned the values of humility, perseverance and community from an early age. She began her early education through the support of her uncle, Zahn A. Dickerner, who played an important role in her formative years.
In December 1995, her journey took a significant turn when she came under the care of Mr. Lester Foss and his wife Julia S. Foss. Their generosity and support gave her access to education and life-changing opportunities that would shape her future. She lived with them in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast, and later relocated with them to Liberia in 2000.
In November 2009, Ophelia immigrated to the United States, carrying with her hope and a desire to give back to humanity. Despite losing her mother, Joanna D. Vakor, in 2019, and her father, John M. Dickerner, in 2021, she remained steadfast in her faith and life’s purpose.
Guided by her lifelong vision for helping the poor and less fortunate, Ophelia founded the Gorpulay Foundation in 2023, to help underprivileged school children in post-war Liberia. The foundation reflects her enduring calling to uplift the less fortunate, support the vulnerable, and create opportunities for those in need.
Today, Ms. Ophelia Kadie Bahn continues to honor the dream that she once shared with her father by turning compassion into action and adversity into purpose. Her story is a testament of strength, perseverance, and an unyielding desire to make a meaningful difference in the world.
