Recent events

We recently visited public schools in the poorest parts of Liberia and discovered that many children were becoming dropouts because of extreme poverty or the misfortune of becoming orphans. Their parents or guardians could not afford the basic necessities for sustaining their education. They were being thrown out of school because they could not pay their tuition fees, lacked textbooks, notebooks, pencils and so forth for doing their schoolwork, and could not afford bookbags to protect their books against the rain or being lost to oblivion. So, we documented these facts and set out to help.

HELPING THE UNDERPRIVILEGED SCHOOL CHILDREN OF LIBERIA

Children are the future, and educating a child is a valuable investment for our world. Unlike in developed countries where every child gets the opportunity to get an education, even if their parents are poor, educating a child in Africa is mostly an investment that comes from parents. And in countries like Liberia whose economy was shattered by civil wars and where poverty rates are high, a child is left to its own fate when it comes to getting an education, and often ends up becoming a dropout. Thus, in such countries, many underprivileged children grow up without an education, and turn to crime and other vices for survival. It is against this background that the Gorpulay Foundation was established, to help end the daunting trend of children becoming dropouts due to poverty or misfortune. We appreciate your generosity in moving this organization forward and are counting on your continued support. Together, we will build a brighter future for the underprivileged school children of Liberia.
